Join a remarkable two-day trek to Doi Inthanon National Park and explore some of Chiang Mai's top attractions. From towering waterfalls to lush jungles and cultural villages, this trek combines nature, adventure, and cultural immersion. Located at 2,565 meters, Doi Inthanon Mountain is Thailand’s highest peak, surrounded by a variety of trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints, historic pagodas, and traditional hill tribe villages.
Day 1: Journey Begins
Morning Pick-Up and Market Visit
The adventure kicks off with a 9:00–9:30 a.m. hotel pick-up in a classic pick-up truck. We drive along Highway 108, passing through the vibrant town of Sanphathong. Here, a brief stop at a local market allows the guide to gather supplies, and trekkers can grab essentials like snacks or drinks for the journey.
Visit Wachiratarn Waterfall
After another hour's drive, we reach the majestic Wachiratarn Waterfall, an iconic spot in Doi Inthanon National Park. With its cascading 80-meter drop, the waterfall provides a refreshing break where visitors can capture stunning photos and enjoy a packed lunch, absorbing the sound and sights of the lush jungle.
Twin Royal Pagodas and the Summit
Post-lunch, we journey to the Twin Royal Pagodas, monuments built to honor the King and Queen of Thailand. Surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens, these pagodas offer sweeping mountain views, ideal for snapshots and quiet reflection. A short drive then brings us to the summit of Doi Inthanon. At this height, you'll experience a cooler, mist-covered landscape that offers a unique contrast to the warm valleys below.
Begin the Trek to the Meo Hill Tribe Village
In the afternoon, we begin a two-hour trek into the enchanting jungle, passing bamboo forests, rare rhododendrons, and a variety of bird species. The hike leads to a Karen hill tribe village, where the group spends the night. With simple accommodations, a local-style dinner, and a chance to interact with the villagers, this experience provides a firsthand glimpse into the Karen community’s customs and daily life.
Day 2: Waterfalls, Rafting, and Elephants
Morning Jungle Trek to a Hidden Waterfall
After a hearty breakfast, a 1.5-hour hike takes us deeper into the forest toward a hidden waterfall. The morning trek offers serene surroundings, native plants, and the occasional call of exotic birds. Upon arrival at the waterfall, you can take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters—a perfect pause to recharge and soak in the natural beauty.
Lunch and Bamboo Rafting at Mae Mud Village
Next, a pick-up truck transports us to Mae Mud village, home to the Shan tribe, also known as the Tai Yai. After a delicious local lunch, it’s time for an exhilarating bamboo rafting journey down the Mae Wang Stream. The hour-long ride lets you float through forested riverbanks, spotting birds, wildlife, and vibrant jungle plants along the way.
Elephant Sanctuary Visit
The final stop is a sanctuary, where you can meet and learn about Asian elephants. Spend time feeding, bathing, and observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat. The experience emphasizes ethical interactions, giving you a closer look at conservation efforts. By late afternoon, we make our way back to Chiang Mai, arriving around 5:00–5:30 p.m., concluding the unforgettable trek.
